A total solar eclipse will take place in Haldimand County on Monday, April 8th between 2:03 pm and 4:31 pm.

Only a narrow band of southern Ontario will be in the path of totality, and Haldimand County will be in a perfect position to enjoy this celestial event.

Should the weather cooperate with clear skies, we anticipate this event could be a significant draw of visitors from the GTA and businesses should prepare accordingly.

Tourism Haldimand has secured a small supply of Solar Eclipse glasses to be used by Tourism businesses.

Businesses will be required to promote to tourists as an incentive for them to visit your business.

Steps to receive your glasses:

Complete form below and click submit. Scroll down to ensure that there are no errors that need correcting.  You will immediately receive a notice by email that we received your order.  If you do not get this confirmation, your order was NOT received and you will need to submit it again.

Once your order has been submitted successfully, wait until you receive your approval, and instructions to pick up the glasses (expect a response in 2-5 business days).

Promote by doing a paid social media campaign on Facebook reaching outside of Haldimand or another type of promotion targeted to visitors, not focused on residents.

Ensure you create your promotion noting that it is limited to only the number of glasses you have. Sample wording of promotions:

• Restaurant with pre-booking: “The first 50 people to book dinner (2 seatings 6 pm & 7:30 pm) with us on Sunday, April 7th will receive Solar Eclipse Glasses to watch the big event on Monday, April 8th. Make a reservation today.”
• Restaurant with no pre-booking: “The first 50 people to visit us for lunch on Saturday, April 6th will receive Solar Eclipse Glasses to watch the big event on Monday, April 8th. First come first served.”
• Accommodations: “Book a room with us for the Solar Eclipse Weekend and you will be provided with 2 free pairs of solar glasses to watch the big event on Monday, April 8th.”
• Experiences:  “Book an experience with us during the Solar Eclipse Weekend and each participant will be provided a pair of solar glasses to watch the big event on Monday, April 8th.”

Glasses are available on a first-come first-served basis, and we reserve the right to restrict the number of glasses.

• Accommodations (allowed 2 times the number of room rental units)
• Restaurants (allowed 2 times the number of allowable seating in the restaurant)
• Tourist Experiences (allowed 2 times the usual number of participants in the experience)

Glasses must be picked up from the Haldimand County Administration Building in Cayuga. You will be notified when ready.

You will be asked to tell us about your promotional plans.

After completing the form below, your order will be reviewed, and once approved an email will be sent to you when they are ready for pick up at Haldimand County’s Administration Building located at 53 Thorburn Street, Cayuga.
