Haldimand County is committed to sound risk management practices including identifying and analyzing loss exposure, establishing risk control measures to reduce and prevent loss, and developing a responsible risk financing plan.
The Legal and Support Services Division is responsible for risk management processes including insurance coverage and claims management for the municipality.
Legal and Support Services works diligently with all Haldimand County departments to help mitigate risks but also relies on the public for notifications of hazards. Insurance, including the management of claims, is supported by the Tax Levy. As such, risk management is essential to mitigate risk and helps reduce the impact of higher insurance premiums that directly impact the Tax Levy.
Report a hazard online or by phone at 905-318-5932.
What You Should Consider Before Making a Claim
Haldimand County understands that any property damage or bodily injury can be upsetting and disruptive. When these types of losses occur, your first call should always be to your insurance broker, as they can guide you through your insurance policies and respective coverages.
Please note if a claim is submitted to Haldimand County, the onus will be on the Claimant to prove that the County was negligent in causing your damages. The County will not be held responsible for costs unless evidence is provided establishing that the County committed a negligent act or omission, which resulted in injury or damage. Haldimand County, like most Canadian municipalities, only compensates when it is legally liable for the damage sustained.
Claims are thoroughly investigated which takes time. Submitting to your insurance company may be the quickest way to have repairs made and recover costs incurred. While your personal insurance may provide full replacement value of your damage property, if compensation as a result of a claim is offered, it will be based upon a depreciated value of your automobile claim or property claim.
