Tourism Sector

Tourism is one of Haldimand’s key sectors as visitors flock to the municipality annually to enjoy our placed based assets and businesses that support the sector. Key draws include the Grand River, Lake Erie, and activities these waterways permit including kayaking, fishing and boating; culinary adventures including you-pick operations, farm tours, and local restaurants that have signature menus; also outdoor experiences in our rural landscape including birding, hiking and cycling.

Haldimand County also has a Tourism Network which gathers quarterly to discuss marketing initiatives, trends, visitor statistics, partnerships and creating tourism experiences to continue to develop Haldimand County as a premiere tourism destination. For more information on these meetings email

EDT won an Innovation Award in the category of Destination Marketing Organization.

The award encompassed the Real. Local. Strategy that was implemented to support local businesses and position our tourism offerings through the pandemic.

The components of the initiative included:

  • Development of Real. Local. Graphic Element;
  • Local Food Campaign;
  • Retail & Wellness Campaign;
  • Road Trip Haldimand Campaign;
  • 2020 Haldimand Holiday Wish Book;
  • Haldimand. Marketplace;
  • Launch of a new Tourism Website and Tourism Instagram page; and
  • A significant social media campaign to support all of the above components.

Consider becoming a Signature Experience

  • Experiences are about people and programming that result in learning, joy, and transformation

  • Programming is generally centered around one of three things:

    • Providing access to a special place

    • Sharing a skill that’s been crafted by the host

    • Putting purpose behind passion (e.g., eating local food)

  • The host brings an element to an experience that cannot be replicated

  • Involves not only learning a new skill but actually changing the way someone thinks about something

  • The experience must be bookable and have a clear outline of value proposition
