Caledonia Fire and EMS Station Project

Project Summary

Rendering of Caledonia Fire/EMS StationIn 2014, staff proposed and Council approved a budget for the purchase of a real estate property for a new Fire/EMS Station on the north side of Caledonia. Staff identified and recommended a property at 270 Argyle Street North be procured as the preferred property after consultation with senior fire staff and local volunteer firefighters. The approximately 2.77 acres of land were purchased by Haldimand County in 2018.

The scope of work will include the new construction of a combined Fire Services and EMS Station on an open greenspace property located at 270 Argyle Street North in Caledonia. The Fire portion of the building consists of approximately 6,372 sqft which includes four (4) drive-thru style bays. The EMS portion consists of approximately 1,432sq./ft. and two (2) drive-thru style bays. The Fire Services portion of the main building includes offices, space for decontamination including the extractor/dryer room, locker area, washrooms with showers and laundry room, storage and maintenance facilities.  The EMS portion includes an office, lunchroom/crew quarters, locker area, washrooms with showers, and stock room. There is approximately 7,836 sq./ft within the building for shared spaces, including a training/meeting room for 48 persons with a kitchen and chair/table storage, a universal washroom, and space for the display of an antique fire truck. The total square footage of the building is approximately 15,640sq./ft. The scope of work also includes site work, site services, landscaping and construction.

October 2021
Staff prepare Request for Proposal for architectural and engineering consulting services for the project. Tender is released on October 26, 2021.

January 2022 – March 2023
Staff award the Request for Proposal for consulting services to G.D. Vallee Ltd., and begin the detailed design development of the project.

November 2022
Staff prepare Request for Prequalification for general contractors for the project. Tender is released on November 1, 2022.

April 2023
Staff prepare Request for Tender for the Caledonia Fire & EMS Station for the project. Tender is released on April 11, 2023.

August 2023 – September 2024
