Mayor and Council
Municipal elections in Ontario allow residents to choose the local leaders who shape their communities. Voters elect a mayor and council, who make decisions on services such as roads, recreation, land use, and community development. The mayor provides overall leadership, represents the municipality, and guides policy, while councillors debate issues and represent the interests of their wards or the municipality as a whole.
Eligible voters may cast a ballot for mayor and for the councillor in the ward where they live or own property. Residents who own property in more than one ward may vote only in the ward in which they reside.
School Board Trustee
In Ontario, school board elections allow residents to choose the trustees who oversee the governance and strategic direction of local school boards. Eligible voters must designate support for one of the four public school systems, and this designation determines which trustees they can vote for. By default, voters are assigned to the English Public system (Grand Erie District School Board) unless they meet the legal criteria to support another board.
You can confirm or change your school support designation by contacting the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
