Voting Methods and Locations

Haldimand County Council has endorsed a hybrid voting model for this election. Voters will be able to cast their ballot either online through internet voting or by using a paper ballot at any of the in-person voting locations. 


In the weeks prior to the advance voting period, eligible voters will receive a Voter Notification Letter by mail.

 

This letter includes your:

  • Voter Identification Number (VIN)

  • Personal Identification Number (PIN)


In-person voting

In-person voting for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections will take place at various locations spread across Haldimand County.  Vote anywhere allows you to cast your ballot for Haldimand County offices at any of our six convenient voting locations.

Advance Polls are scheduled at a variety of convenient times and locations between Saturday, October 17, 2026, to Wednesday, October 21, 2026.  Voting Day is on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Who can I vote for?

Eligible electors may vote for:

  • one candidate for Mayor, elected at-large,
  • one candidate for Councillor, elected from your ward, and
  • a Trustee(s) from your School Board (as applicable)

How to vote

  • Check the Voters List to ensure you are on it, and your mailing address is correct. For more information about the Voters List, please visit our Information for Voters page.
  • Eligible voters will receive their Voter Notification Letter. Keep it in a safe place until the voting period.
  • Visit any of the advance polls or Voting Day polls to submit your vote. Make sure to bring acceptable identification as well as your Voter Notification Letter. Election Officials will be at all voting locations to assist you in the process.

Internet voting

Internet voting will run from Friday, October 16, 2026, at 9 a.m. to Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Internet voting is the most accessible type of voting, providing all electors with a convenient and secure way to participate in the election process. With the flexibility to vote from a computer, tablet, or smartphone, electors can cast their ballots from with a reliable internet connection at any time within the internet voting period. 

The internet voting system is designed to be user-friendly and accessible. Clear instructions will be provided, and support is available to voters throughout the internet voting period.

Haldimand County is committed to ensuring the security of electors and the integrity of the election results. Municipal internet voting systems use several layers of security, such as encryption, authentication measures, and independent testing.

How to vote

  • Prior to the election, eligible voters will receive a Voter Notification Letter by mail. The letter includes your Voter Identification Number (VIN) and Personal Identification Number (PIN), which allows you to vote online. Keep this information in a safe place until voting opens on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 9 a.m.
  • You will need access to the internet, your VIN, PIN, and date of birth to vote.
  • Visit the voting website provided in your Voter Notification Letter. Enter the necessary information to sign in and follow prompts to complete your ballot.  

Voting assistance

  • If you are not on the Voters List, you will not receive a Voter Notification Letter. For more information on how to check whether you are on the list, please visit our Information for Voters page.
  • During the internet voting period, electors will be able to vote at the library; library staff will be able to provide assistance if needed.
  • If you are having issues casting your ballot, you can reach out to Haldimand County.

Voting Accessibility

To ensure voting is accessible to all electors, an accessibility plan is developed in conjunction with the Haldimand County Accessibility Advisory Committee.  The accessibility plan includes a thorough assessment of our voting methods and locations, ensuring we meet or exceed accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).  The accessibility plan will be available on our website once it has been approved.

  • Service animals are welcome at all in-person voting locations
  • If you find it difficult to vote using a paper ballot, you may bring a support person, such as a friend or relative, to help you mark your ballot. If you bring a support person:
    • They must take an oath confirming they will mark the ballot exactly as you instruct.
    • They may accompany you throughout the voting place, including behind the voting screen.
  • An election official can also assist you in voting using a paper ballot. Election officials are trained to assist in a neutral, confidential manner. Election officials can also read the ballot aloud, guide your hand, or provide other assistance as required.
  • If you are unable to vote in person or use internet voting, you may appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf. The required proxy forms must be completed, and the proxy must present the forms at the voting location before receiving a ballot.
  • Voters who are physically unable to enter a voting place may request curbside voting.
