Tariffs and Haldimand County: at a glance

We're taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact of increased tariffs, including government advocacy, direct business support, supporting sector resilience, and regional collaboration. By working closely with businesses, industry stakeholders, provincial and federal governments, and economic development partners, Haldimand County is committed to ensuring business stability and long-term resilience.

Key pillars of our tariff response planning

Haldimand's economy depends on trade.

With a total export value of $7.97 billion in 2022, many of our businesses rely on both domestic and U.S. markets. Tariffs pose a significant risk to local businesses, jobs, and economic stability in our community.

Tariffs affect everyone, and a stable Canada-U.S. trade relationship is essential.

Disruptions caused by tariffs affect the local economy; increased material costs reduce competitiveness, high export tariffs limit market access, and retaliatory trade measures create uncertainty for businesses planning future investments.

Haldimand County remains committed to supporting businesses that rely on cross-border markets.

While we work to strengthen local and regional opportunities, we also advocate for policies that ensure fair and predictable trade with the U.S.

Small businesses are the heart of Haldimand County.

Tourism and regional spending matter. Promoting Haldimand as a staycation destination, expanding tourism marketing, and encouraging local spending will help cushion economic impacts.
