Haldimand County announces key details for residents and candidates ahead of the 2026 Municipal Election

This October, qualified voters in Haldimand County will elect members of Council for the 2026-2030 term, as well as trustees for local school boards.  Key election details for both residents and prospective candidates are now available at haldimandvotes.ca – the official source for all election news and information.  

Qualified voters must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years of age, and either reside in Haldimand County or own/rent property here.  

New for 2026 

Following the 2024 Ward Boundary Review, Council approved a new Ward Boundary and Council Composition By-law. Changes from this by-law include the creation of a seventh ward in the Caledonia area and significant adjustments to several existing ward boundaries to reflect the review’s findings. 

Residents are encouraged to review the updated boundaries and confirm their ward by searching their address using our interactive map at haldimandvotes.ca.  

Voters list registration  

Eligible voters can confirm, update, or add their information to the Voters List through Elections Ontario at www.registertovoteon.ca.  

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Voters who wish to confirm or update their school support designation can do so by visiting the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) website.  

Voter Notification Letters, which include voting instructions and credentials, will be mailed to eligible electors later this fall.  

Ways to vote 

Eligible voters will be able to cast their ballot in several ways: 

Online voting 

Open Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 25 

Advance Voting – In person 

Multiple locations and times open from Saturday, October 17 to Wednesday, October 21 

Election Day – In person 

Monday, October 26, 2026 with multiple locations open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

An information session for prospective candidates will be held at 5:30 p.m. on April 21, 2026, at the Haldimand County Administration Building.  

The session, facilitated by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will provide an overview of the nomination process, campaign expectations, and the role of elected officials. No registration is required.
