Closure Notice: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The Haldimand County Administration Building, Canborough Waste Management Facility, Hagersville Library + Active Living Centre, and all museums and library branches will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Garbage and recycling curbside collection will be delayed by one day starting Wednesday, September 30. Monday and Tuesday collections will be unaffected.
Haldimand County recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 as an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on the truth of Canada’s history and the experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Reconciliation requires the courage to listen, the humility to acknowledge past and ongoing harms, and an ongoing commitment to truth, respect and meaningful action.
As a corporation, Haldimand County is taking steps towards truth and reconciliation efforts & is encouraging staff to educate themselves on the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada. All Haldimand County library branches have created displays highlighting Indigenous resources and materials available through the library.
The Every Child Matters flag will be flown on the county’s community flagpole the week of September 28, and staff are encouraged to wear orange and participate in activities that explore and recognize Indigenous culture.
A number of learning resources are available on the Government of Canada website regarding Indigenous history in Canada, Indigenous culture and reconciliation.
