Camper code of conduct

At Haldimand County camps, we’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and fun experience for every child. To help us achieve this, all campers are expected to follow our Code of Conduct. Please read the full Code of Conduct below to see how we can work together to make camp a great experience for all.

Haldimand County is dedicated to ensuring every child has a fantastic time at camp. Campers are expected to interact appropriately with fellow campers, staff and volunteers, and follow the Haldimand County Code of Conduct, sent out to registered participants before the start of camp.

Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. We strive to offer quality programs using the High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development: a caring adult, the opportunity to play, building friendships, mastering skills and participation. High Five is Canada’s quality standard for children’s recreation and sport.

We believe that every child has a right to enjoy the respect of their peers.

Haldimand County will work towards ensuring no bullying or anti-social behaviour is permitted at camp. Please ask your child to let us know if they see or experience this during camp.

When a camper does not follow the Camper Code of Conduct the steps below will take place.

  • Occurrence #1: The participant will be reminded of the Camper Code of Conduct and guardian(s) will be notified at the end of the day.
  • Occurrence #2: If inappropriate behaviour continues, a camp coordinator and the camper’s guardian will be notified immediately. A discussion will take place with the camper and the guardian to create a plan for a more positive time at camp.
  • Occurrence #3: A guardian will be contacted to pick the participant up for the remainder of the day. If it is past noon, the child will not be allowed to come to camp the following day.
  • Occurrence #4: If the inappropriate behaviour persists, Haldimand County reserves the right to remove the child from the program. Each step will be clearly documented by camp staff.

The following are examples of behaviours that are not acceptable and may result in the immediate suspension of a camper:

  • Endangering the health and safety of other participants, staff or volunteers.
  • Stealing or damaging Haldimand County or personal property.
  • Refusing to follow the Camper Code of Conduct and staff.

When a Camper does not follow the Camper Code of Conduct and is removed from a program there will be no refund or credit of camp fees. The parent/guardian will be responsible for making arrangements for a ride home.

Inclusion supports

All of our summer camps offer an inclusive environment. For campers requiring additional assistance, a limited number of Inclusion Counsellors are available at our camps. Parents and guardians must indicate the need for inclusion support at the time of registration and will be given a form to complete outlining their child's specific needs.

Please note that there are some limitations on the level of assistance provided. Additionally, we do not provide one-on-one inclusion support staff for any of our March Break programming; however, external support staff are welcome with pre-approval.

Contact our recreation team for more information.
