Position Summary
The Weigh Scale Attendant, reporting to the Supervisor, Waste Management, and taking work direction and guidance from the Foreperson, Solid Waste Operations, performs all weighing operations and collection of required fees at the Canborough Waste Management Facility (CWMF).
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Education
- Completion of Grade 11 plus an additional vocational program of up to one year (business and computer courses), or Grade 12 graduation, or equivalent.
Experience
- Over three months, up to and including six months related experience and orientation, training and adjustment on the job itself.
Or equivalent to the above.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of Provincial and County Waste Management regulations.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to interact with the public.
- A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and access to a vehicle or reliable transportation.
- Technology Aptitude
- Demonstrated basic computer skills to follow steps that are well defined to obtain / input information on a regular and recurring basis (for example, time input into e-Timecard, Databridge for waste management data, etc.) and send e-mails.
NOTE: Within an identified time frame, the incumbent is expected to take training and receive certification in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act; annual Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) training; and First Aid and CPR.
Machines Operated (used on a regular basis include, but are not limited to):
- Computer, printer, telephone, computerized weigh scale, calculator, POS machine, security alarm system, two-way radio, broom, shovel and gas detector.
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
People
- Provide information, direction and service to the public at the Canborough Waste Management Facility (CWMF).
- Respond to inquiries from the public, provincial authorities, contractors, site users and staff.
Functional
- Responsible for the general security of the scale house during scheduled work hours.
- Open and close Canborough Waste Management Facility (CWMF) as required.
- Weigh all vehicular traffic entering and leaving Canborough Waste Management Facility (CWMF) in accordance with Provincial and County policies and procedures.
- Monitor, enforce and process the waste stream in accordance with County policies and procedures as well as applicable Provincial Acts and Regulations.
- Collect cash and credit receipts from customers, and track billing information.
- Store, prepare all required documentation relating to use of Canborough Waste Management Facility (CWMF) (fees collection, etc.) including bank deposit information.
- Collect and input waste stream data into the waste management data collection system.
- Draft electronic waste manifests through Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) portal for leachate.
- Perform light housekeeping duties inside and outside the weigh scale house.

Working Conditions
- Canborough Waste Management Facility Regular Business Hours: 8:00 am – 4:15 pm Monday to Friday; 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday.
