Van Attendant/Maintenance Worker, Grandview Lodge

Position Status: Permanent full-time
Work Hours: 40 per week
Location: Dunnville, ON (Grandview Lodge)

Position Summary
The incumbent will transport Grandview Lodge Residents to and from scheduled appointments, while maintaining various types of tools and equipment and assists with the receiving and distributing of supplies. Lastly, they will undertake other general maintenance duties as assigned to ensure the building and grounds are in good condition.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Education
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
Experience
- Over six months, up to and including one year current related work experience and work/life experiences that are necessary for performance of the job and training and adjustment on the job.
Knowledge/Skills
- Valid Ontario Class “G” drivers licence
- Valid CPR and First Aid training certificate
- Knowledge of area geography, including health facilities / offices frequented by Seniors and familiarity with nearest emergency facilities enroute required
- Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control as they relate to Healthcare facilities
- Experience working with seniors would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete minor equipment repairs required
- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete other general maintenance tasks required
- Demonstrated understanding of building automation systems and controls
- Demonstrated understanding of building security and access control
- Demonstrated knowledge of horticulture
- Must be able to read and write English
- Must have proven ability to follow direction
- Must have proven ability to work independently or as a team member
- Proven interpersonal skills to interact with Residents, team members and members of the public
- Technology Aptitude
- Demonstrated basic computer skills to perform basic tasks on various technological devices and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and an awareness of best practices.
- Basic knowledge with computers, printers. Mouses, internet, and e-mail.
- Competency using Microsoft Outlook and calendar functionality.
Machines & Equipment Operated:
- Automobiles: Passenger van
- Gas Powered: Garden tractor, lawn mower, weed eater.
- Power Tools: Drills, screwdrivers, saws, vacuum and grinders, electric ID pencil.
- Other: Hand tools, pallet jack Building Automation Software, Security Software, and Access Control Software
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
Corporate
- Follow the GVL philosophy of delivering care to Residents by using Montessori and GPA principles
- Communicate with Residents, visitors and other personnel in a courteous manner
- Ensure the Resident Bill of Rights are respected
Functional
- Maintenance:
- Undertake minor maintenance or preventive maintenance tasks on equipment including: van, wheelchairs, nightlights, medical aids (suction machines, lifts, walkers, etc.)
- Assist with the completion of maintenance work orders as assigned, work orders may require activities such as:
- Basic HVAC predictive and preventative maintenance
- basic carpentry work
- painting
- millwork
- minor plumbing work
- building automation changes/updates
- Provide care and maintenance to plants, foliage, and flowers inside and outside of the building
- Transportation:
- Transport Residents to and from scheduled medical appointments.
- Retrieve and deliver goods for the Home as assigned by the Supervisor or Nursing Department
- Utilize safe driving practices
- Maintain van log and provides accurate statistics and information (e.g. mileage, expenses, etc.)
- Maintain communication with Grandview Lodge when off site.
- Assist with resident admissions and transfers as requested
- Health & Safety:
- Report any change in Resident’s condition during transportation to the appropriate Charge Nurse.
- Ensure the Resident(s) has access to appropriate nourishment if appointments carry over the lunch hour.
- Complete maintenance audits, as assigned, specifically monthly fire equipment inspections.
- Perform resident bed assessments and perform entrapment testing as directed
- Report unsafe equipment or hazardous conditions promptly
- Report all personal accidents and incidents to the Supervisor, Facility Operations immediately
- Undertake tasks and projects as assigned, including project cleaning.

Position Requirement(s)
- A current police check (LE 220 or Equivalent) from within the last 6 months
