You will assist with various maintenance tasks to ensure the building and grounds are visually appealing and in good condition. Lastly, you will be required to effectively and safely use a variety of landscaping and maintenance tools to complete work.

Job Description

Summer Student Maintenance, Grandview Lodge

Vacancy: 1

Posting Period: December 12, 2025 – January 30, 2026

Employer Group: Non-union

Reporting to: Supervisor, Facility Operations    

Grade: Student 2

Wage Hourly: $19.36

Position Status: Temporary full-time (employment expected from June 14 - September 4, 2026)

Work Hours per Week: Up to 40

Location: Dunnville, ON (Grandview Lodge)

Position Summary

This position will assist with various maintenance tasks to ensure the building and grounds are visually appealing and in good condition. They will also perform routine activities to assist with Resident and staff needs, as directed.  This position will be required to effectively and safely use a variety of landscaping and maintenance tools to complete their work.  

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Education

  • Must be enrolled in Secondary School (at least 16 years old), Community College or University and returning to school in September on a full-time basis 

Experience

  • No prior experience required
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with: 
    • Landscaping and maintenance experience (including weed whipping, lawn maintenance, planting/weeding, painting etc.) 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to give, obtain, seek clarification, and/or exchange routine information
  • Demonstrated initiative, and ability to make decisions involving routine tasks, within established procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with complex tasks requiring some supervision
  • Organizational skills with considerable attention to detail to avoid errors and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and guide interdisciplinary team-based discussions to increase staff morale, team building and team spirit
  • Technology Aptitude
    • Demonstrated intermediate computer skills to utilize various technological devices and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and best practices are followed
    • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
    • Computer knowledge of Network and Software Administration

Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:

Functional

  • Landscaping and Outdoor Maintenance
    • Weed Whipping
    • Lawn Maintenance (push mower) 
    • Light tree trimming
    • Covering garden with mulch
    • Spring cleaning of the yards
    • Planting and weeding gardens
    • Watering plants (inside and out)
    • Painting
    • Preventative Maintenance Program on outdoor furniture
    • Assisting, in conjunction with permanent staff, with the Preventative Maintenance Program on basic equipment 
  • Interior Maintenance & Repairs
    • Assisting with grocery duties
    • Assisting with wall repairs and painting
    • Assisting with weekly supplies inventory, ordering and stocking
    • Assisting with resident needs, as directed (hanging pictures, hook up TVs, etc.) 
    • Completing miscellaneous work orders, as assigned

Position Requirement(s)

  • A Current (within the past 6 months) Police Check OPP LE 220 (If 18 years of age or older) 
  • A Current (within the past 6 months) Two-Step TB/Mantoux Test
