The Carolinian Cafe

When Jordan and Whitney Fowler were looking for a place to put down roots, they weren't just searching for a place to live - they were searching for a community where they could build a business and a future. 

Originally from the Niagara region, the couple moved to Haldimand County with a background in farming, operating greenhouses that produced organic fruits and vegetables for farmers' markets across Southern Ontario. While they valued those experiences, they wanted to create something more permanent - a place where the relationships they built could continue to grow. That vision became The Carolinian Café and Eatery in Cayuga. 

Named after the Carolinian forest region, the café reflects the couple's passion for local food, craftsmanship, and community. Fresh produce from their own greenhouses, locally sourced ingredients, and handcrafted décor celebrate everything that makes Haldimand unique. Inside, the walls showcase artwork from local artists and students, while reclaimed furnishings from the community tell their own stories. More than a café, it has become a welcoming gathering place where neighbours connect over coffee, homemade meals, and conversation. 

After eight years of building a loyal customer base in Cayuga, Jordan and Whitney saw another opportunity - not outside Haldimand County, but within it. 

When the opportunity arose to operate the café inside the new Hagersville Active Living Centre, expanding into a second location felt like a natural next step. The new Carolinian Café and Kitchen allows them to bring their fresh lunches, quality coffee, and welcoming atmosphere to a new community while still serving residents, families, and visitors in Haldimand.  

They are excited to be part of a vibrant community gathering place where people come to stay active, connect, and spend time together. They are committed to serving hearty, satisfying meals that help customers stay energized on busy days. 

The expansion also represents the evolution of their business. While the original location remains at The Carolinian Café and Eatery, the Hagersville location introduces "Kitchen" to reflect future growth into catering, prepared meals, and larger food offerings. It builds on the success of their first café while creating new opportunities to serve the community in different ways. 

For Jordan and Whitney, choosing to expand in Haldimand County was an easy decision. This is where they live, where they're raising their family, and where they've built lasting relationships with customers who have supported their business from the beginning. Every new venture is an investment back into the community that helped them succeed.
