Founded in 1983 by Richard Schilstra, Rijus Home Design quickly established a reputation throughout Haldimand for creating beautiful, functional, and affordable house plans. Richard’s thoughtful approach and personalized service laid a strong foundation for the company, earning the trust of homeowners and builders alike. 

In 2006, Richard’s son, Jason Schilstra, joined the firm, and in 2016, he assumed leadership, marking a full generational transition. Under Jason’s guidance, Rijus Home Design expanded beyond its local origins to become a leading provider of custom home designs across all of Ontario. This growth has brought many jobs into the community, through the addition of a skilled team of qualified designers, and the opening of a dedicated commercial office in Dunnville. 

 Today, Rijus Home Design provides more than 250 custom house and garage plans annually across Ontario, serving communities from Haldimand to Toronto, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, and beyond. The company has grown into a comprehensive resource for permit-ready documentation, including HVAC designs and structural engineering, while also offering detailed 3D interior and exterior renderings. Specializing in fully customized design services, Rijus works closely with clients to create spaces tailored to their unique lifestyles, goals, and vision.
