James Richardson
A 6th-generation farmer who is passionate about supporting local and educating the community.
Richardson’s Farm and Market is owned by James Richardson, a 6th-generation farmer who currently resides in Dunnville, where his farm and store are located. James is passionate about the work he does both on and off the farm. Outside of cultivating several crops, including berries, beets, tomatoes, potatoes, corn and maple syrup, educating the public on food and food systems has been an important part of his career.
A top value James holds is supporting local food systems, which is evident when you step into the on-farm store. You can find a variety of local products such as chocolates from My Sweet Sweet World in Hagersville, specialty sauces and dressings from Harvest Goodies in Milton, and Madawaska Coffee, which is roasted in Northern Ontario.
Seasonally, James offers tours of his farm and teaches locals and out-of-towners about how their food is grown, cultivated and processed. James is also an executive for the Dunnville Farmers Market Association and was an integral part of revitalizing the Dunnville Farmers Market. He championed the project by raising awareness and money, and by leading the communication between Haldimand County and the local farmers. The project was a major success, and the Dunnville Farmers Market is now one of the premier farmers' markets in Southwestern Ontario.
Throughout the week, you can find James at the Dunnville Farmers Market, the Caledonia Farmers Market, and the Hagersville Farmers Market, as well as other markets outside Haldimand County. You can also go and visit Richardson’s Farm at 131 River Road, Dunnville, for fresh produce, frozen meals, fresh baked goods, sugar bush tours, strawberry picking, and much more.
From James’s commitment to raising the importance of local food to the work he does in the community with organizations such as the Dunnville Farmers Market Association, he is a great example of a local community leader.
