Success Stories: Battlefield International
“Our products look better, perform better, and are better, and that’s why we remain at the top of our field.”
Located in Cayuga, Battlefield International is a manufacturer of specialized couplings, valves, and quick disconnects for unmanned air vehicles, land systems, and marine applications. They are globally recognized for their quality, and their parts can be found in military and private applications all over the world. While their products may be global, their roots are local, and they feature “Made in Cayuga, Canada” on every product.
President Steve Fenton moved to Caledonia roughly 30 years ago, in 1998, after getting tired of the commute to Hamilton. What made him stay? The beautiful, relaxed living, the small-town feel, and of course, the lack of traffic. Steve has now raised generations of his family here, and all of his children and grandchildren are within a stone’s throw away from his home.
When Steve bought Battlefield’s first facility, he thought he would never outgrow the site; however, due to the company’s success, Battlefield now occupies 2 full facilities within Haldimand County. The company continues to grow to this day, and Battlefield is constantly looking for opportunities to expand.
When asked what sets their company apart, Steve stated, “We want to treat and compensate people so well that they don’t look elsewhere for a job”. When asked about the example he wanted to set in the community, he stated, “Flexibility is our goal. We have employees working 4-day work weeks, and others working flexible hours within the day while completing their engineering degrees. As an employer, I want to support and empower them to make these shifts. It is all about what works for the employee, and our company tries to accommodate the best we can.” These corporate policies and the work culture are what help Battlefield attract young professionals from both Haldimand County and surrounding areas.
When it comes to business strategy, Battlefield International’s is simple: “be the best.” Fenton expressed, “Compared to our competitors, we are much smaller. We get contracts, though, because our products look better, perform better, and are better. All that coupled with our dedication to excellent customer service has allowed us to continually remain at the top of our field.”
Battlefield International is a great example of how innovation, dedication and strong company values can set you apart in your field. With such a creative leader at the helm, we are excited to see what ventures they will pursue next.
