This is a casual role at Haldimand County, Grandview Lodge, with an hourly compensation of $18.92.
The Opportunity
You’ll provide support in the delivery of meal services, ensuring meals are prepared and served according to the residents dietary needs and preferences. Additionally, the Dietary Student will play a pivotal role in supporting the dietary team by assisting with meal preparation, ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are being followed, while reporting to the dietary supervisor.

Position Summary
This role is a fundamental part of the interdisciplinary care team that actively contributes to the well-being of residents. The incumbent will work in the kitchen, dish room, Resident dining rooms, serveries and area kitchenettes to provide quality meal service to the Residents, staff and guests at Grandview Lodge, while adhering with food and health safety regulations and ministry standards
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Education
- Food Handler Certificate
- Currently enrolled in a Secondary School program
Experience
- Over three months, up to and including six months current related work experience and work/life experiences that are necessary for the performance of the job and training and adjustment on the job itself.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must be able to read, write and understand English
- Must have proven ability to follow instruction
- Must have proven ability to work independently or as a team member
- Proven interpersonal skills to interact with Residents, team members and members of the public
Machines Operated
Industrial kitchen equipment including but not limited to:
- Coffee Urn
- Toasters
- Food Processor
- Hobart Mixer
- Steam Kettle
- Dishwasher
- Mops / Brooms
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
Corporate
- Follow the GVL philosophy of delivering care to Residents by utilizing DementiAbility methods and GPA principles
- Communicate with Residents, visitors and other personnel in a courteous manner
- Ensure Resident’s Bill of Rights are respected
- Understand or be willing to learn therapeutic diet requirements
- Maintain standard of quality in food production, adhering to sanitation and food handler’s standards
Functional
- Assist the Cook(s) with meal preparation and service, when/as required
- Portion food for Resident meals, following therapeutic diet instructions
- Distributes meals and condiments to Resident dining tables
- Assist in maintaining the preparation and service areas in clean and sanitary condition
- Clear tables/food carts and scrape dishes
- Operate dishwasher according to procedures
- Wash pots, pans and processing equipment
- Store clean equipment and utensils
- Stock kitchenettes in Resident home areas
- Set tables
- Sweep and mops floors in galley and kitchen areas
- Handle soaps, chemicals according to Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)
- Report all personal incidents and accidents to Supervisor, Dietary Services or designate immediately
- Report unsafe equipment or hazardous conditions promptly
- Complete dietary audits, as assigned
- Complete inventory under the direction of the Supervisor
