Notice of Nominations for Office - 2026 Municipal and School Board Election

Notice is hereby given to the municipal electors of Haldimand County: 

Nomination forms for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election may be filed in person by appointment at the Clerk’s Office, Haldimand County Administration Building, 53 Thorburn Street S., Cayuga. 

Nominations will be accepted during regular business hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., from May 1, 2026, to August 20, 2026, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.  

Nomination forms may be filed for the following Haldimand County offices: 

Mayor (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 1  (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 2  (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 3  (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 4 (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 5  (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 6 (1 to be elected) 

Councillor – Ward 7  (1 to be elected) 

Trustee, English Language Public (2 to be elected) 

Trustee, English Language Separate  (1 to be elected) 

Trustee, French Language Public (1 to be elected from City of Sarnia, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, and the Counties of Oxford, Elgin and Lambton ) 

Trustee, French Language Separate (1 to be elected from Region of Waterloo, City of Brantford, Haldimand County, Norfolk County and County of Brant) 

The nomination shall: 

  1. be in the prescribed form and, for nominations for an office on Council, be accompanied by endorsements of at least 25 persons; 

  1. be accompanied by the filing fee of $200.00 for the office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices. The fee shall be paid in cash, certified cheque, money order, debit, Visa or Mastercard. 

You are entitled to be an elector and to run for the position of Mayor or Council if on voting day you are:  

  • A Canadian citizen; and 

  • At least 18 years of age; and 

  • A resident of Haldimand County, or an owner or tenant of land in Haldimand County, or the spouse of the owner or tenant; and 

  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and 

  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office. 

If you plan to seek office in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election in Haldimand County, you must file your nomination with the Municipal Clerk before you spend or raise any money for campaign activities.   

Voting Day is Monday, October 26, 2026.
