Notice of Intention to Repeal Designating By-law 443/84

In accordance with Section 31 (3) of the Ontario Heritage Act, notice is hereby given that the Council of the Corporation of Haldimand County, at its meeting held on October 14, 2025, is providing Notice of its intention to repeal By-law Number 443/84, a by-law which designates the Seneca Iron Bridge, 651 Caithness Street East, Caledonia (on the closed portion of old Highway #54), as being of cultural heritage value or interest under Part IV subsection 29(1) of the Ontario Heritage Act, R.S.O. c. O. 18.

Haldimand County Council approved the request to repeal By-law 443/84 because the bridge structure has deteriorated to the point where it is past its useful life and the structure is unsafe; the replacement would be cost-prohibitive.

Any objection to this repeal must be filed in writing and shall include the reasons for the objection and all relevant facts, no later than November 25, 2025.

Objections should be directed to:

Clerk of Haldimand County
53 Thorburn Street South
Cayuga, ON N0A 1E0

Further information regarding this proposed repeal is available from Haldimand County. Any inquiries may be directed to Anne Unyi, Supervisor, Heritage and Culture, 905-318-5932, ext. 6516, or by email at aunyi@haldimandcounty.on.ca
