Niagara SPCA and Humane Society hosting low-cost rabies vaccine and microchip clinic in Cayuga September 20
On September 20, 2025, the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society’s mobile clinic will be setting up in Cayuga at the Haldimand County Administration Building parking lot (53 Thorburn St. S). From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., residents are welcome to drop by and get their cat(s) or dog(s) vaccinated or microchipped for a small fee. No appointment is necessary.
Rabies vaccines and microchips can be purchased at the clinic for $40 each ($80 total for both). They will be administered to pets by attending veterinarian Dr. Marcus Chu. Pet owners are asked to bring any vaccine records if their pet has previously been vaccinated.
Both Ontario law and Haldimand County’s Animal Control By-Law require that all dogs and cats over 3 months of age be vaccinated against rabies. This includes indoor cats.
Though not legally required, microchipping helps reunite lost pets with their owners quickly. It’s a permanent form of identification that’s more reliable than collars or tags. A sterile microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, is loaded into a special syringe and injected just under the skin, typically between the shoulders blades.
After insertion, the microchip is scanned to confirm it’s working and the pet’s unique microchip number is registered in a national base along with the owner’s contact information.
Rabies vaccinations and microchips will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents with questions about Niagara SPCA & Humane Society’s mobile clinic and other services, like low-cost, high-volume spays and neuter program, are encouraged to visit www.niagaraspca.com.
