Newly acquired Harrison Landing boat launch set to open for May long weekend
In January 2026, Haldimand announced that it had acquired Harrison Landing, a 1 acre property on the north bank of the Grand River adjacent to municipally-owned Lower LaFortune Park. Previously operated as a private launch and docking facility, the now municipally-owned Harrison Landing will be a public, free-to-use boat launch once it opens for the May long weekend.
Located at 2305 Highway 54 West, Caledonia, Harrison Landing will operate under a basic service model – similar to other parks in Port Maitland, Cayuga (Bob Baigent Park) and Dunnville (Wingfield Park) – with regular grass cutting, tree/parking lot maintenance and amenities like portable washrooms, picnic tables and waste receptacles.
For people who have previously used Harrison Landing it is important to note that no day-use docking will be available. The boat launch itself will be the only designated area for water access, and vessels will not be permitted to tie up or remain onsite beyond launching and retrieval.
Annually, all municipal boat launches are opened in time for the May long weekend – Friday, May 15 this year – or earlier depending on weather and water levels. Staff will monitor conditions, and where appropriate, may open launches earlier.
