Maintenance Worker, Grandview Lodge

Position Status: Permanent Full-Time
Work Hours Per Week: 40
Location: Dunnville, ON (Grandview Lodge)

Position Summary
This role will undertake various maintenance tasks to ensure the building and grounds are in good condition. The incumbent will also maintain various types of tools, equipment and assist with the receiving and distributing of supplies.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Education
- Completion of Grade 11 plus an additional vocational programme of up to one year, or Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
Experience
- Over one year, up to and including two years current related work experience and work / life experiences that are necessary to perform the job and training and adjustment on the job itself (general / specialized building and grounds maintenance experience and experience working with Seniors would be an asset in this position).
Knowledge/Skills
- Valid Class “G” Drivers License
- Must be able to read and write English
- Proven ability to follow direction
- Proven ability to work independently or as a team member
- Proven interpersonal skills to interact with Residents, team members and members of the public
- Proven ability to operate and maintain equipment listed
- Ability to read blueprints
- Demonstrated knowledge of horticulture
NOTE: The County will provide certification training in the transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS and other safety training relative to the work performed.
Machine & Equipment Operated include but not limited to:
- Passenger van.
- Gas Powered - Garden tractor, lawn mower, weed eater.
- Power Tools - Drills, screwdrivers, grinders, electric ID pencil, welder, table saw, chop saws.
- Other - Computer (Building Automation System), general office equipment, industrial equipment, hand tools
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
Corporate
- Follow the GVL philosophy of delivering care to Residents by utilizing Montessori and GPA principles.
- Communicate with Residents, visitors and other personnel in a courteous manner.
- Ensure Resident's Bill of Rights are respected.
Functional
- Building and Ground Maintenance Activities:
- Carpentry
- Plumbing
- Electrical work
- Boiler maintenance
- Air conditioning
- General painting, plastering, masonry
- Welding
- Machine, equipment and/or furniture repair
- Gardening, ground maintenance
- Provide care and maintenance to plants, foliage, and flowers inside and outside of the building
- Records and Reporting:
- Report / repair unsafe equipment and tools or hazardous conditions promptly.
- Report all personal incidents and accidents to the Supervisor, Facility Operations / Charge Nurse
- Receive and organize stores, inventory, as required
- Complete audits, as required
- Health & Safety
- Handle soaps and chemicals according to the Workplace Hazard Information System (WHMIS)
- Maintain tools and equipment in good repair.

Position Requirement(s)
- A current police check (LE 220 or Equivalent) from within the last 6 months
