Hwy 54 bridge removal starting in June

The removal of the Highway 54 bridge is scheduled to begin this June, with work anticipated to be completed in the fall.

Work planned for this project includes:

  • Removal of the existing rail overpass bridge on Haldimand Road 54/Munsee Street North and replacing it with a new road
  • Creation of an AODA-compliant trailhead and parking area for the Grand Vista Trail

A public open house was held on February 18, 2025, to review the design of this project and answer any questions.

Bypass road

During the bridge removal, a bypass road will be constructed on the west side of Haldimand Road 54 to keep traffic flowing throughout the work. To accommodate the creation of a bypass road, a hydro pole will need to be relocated, requiring the bridge's two streetlights to be disconnected before construction can begin.

Pre-condition surveys of surrounding properties and the preliminary utility relocations are currently underway, with construction set to begin later this month.
