Harvard 2766 aircraft being prepared for re-location and restoration at No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum

Earlier this year, the No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum applied for a Community Partnership Program grant to undertake a restoration of the Harvard 2766 aircraft located outside of the Dunnville Public Library.  

Haldimand County fully supported the Museum’s request, however, further inspection by subject matter experts from the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association determined that the aircraft would not withstand the elements long-term if re-mounted outdoors. Sitting outside since 1980 has resulted in significant weather-related deterioration.  

In light of this information, and in the interest of preserving this important piece of history for future generations, the decision was made to transfer ownership of the Harvard 2766 to the No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum along with money in the Harvard Plane Reserve Fund ($42,410) to assist with restoration costs (estimated at between $60,000 to $80,000).  

The aircraft will be re-located to the No. 6 RCAF Dunnville Museum for restoration, where it will remain indoors permanently.  

Museum volunteers have been working with several other community groups, supporters, and advisors, including volunteer engineers and experts in historical restorations. Restoration work will occur over the winter, with the goal of having the restoration complete in time for June 6, 2027 – D Day – significant given the plane’s number is 2766 (2027-06-06).  

Volunteers will be at the Dunnville Library this Friday, October 2, doing some preliminary work to prepare for the plane’s re-location.  

Many thanks are owed to the community groups, volunteers and supporters who have worked together to take on this important restoration work. Plans for a grand unveiling and community celebration will be announced in 2027.
