Haldimand residents connected to municipal water and wastewater eligible for sewer lateral repair/replacement coverage through Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC)
In 2025, Haldimand County entered into a partnership agreement with Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC) to offer Haldimand County residents a warranty program for their privately-owned water and sanitary sewer laterals. The warranty program is now available, and interested residents can visit www.slwofc.ca to learn about options and sign up.
Property owners are responsible for the maintenance of buried water and sewer lines that run from the property line to the exterior of their home. When these lines break, leak or become obstructed, the homeowner is often surprised to learn that it is not a municipal responsibility to rectify the issue, and not all home insurance policies offer coverage for the repair/replacements of these pipes. These unexpected repairs or replacement can cost thousands of dollars.
The SLWC program provides affordable monthly coverage for exterior water and sewer lines, as well as optional interior plumbing protection. Repairs are performed by licensed, insured contractors. Participation is voluntary, and residents are encouraged to review their existing insurance coverage before enrolling.
All Haldimand County residents will be receiving a letter in the mail from SLWC announcing the program. Resident contact information was obtained by SLWC independently through a contracted mail targeting provider.
Residential properties tied to municipal water and wastewater systems, as well as residential properties on private systems (i.e. well, cistern or septic) are eligible.
Commercial customers and residential customers with shared servicing (multi-residential complexes) are ineligible.
Endorsed by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), over 80 municipalities across Ontario have adopted this program, with more on the way.
