Murder mystery scenario

The museum welcomes a renowned art collector who will be lending a prized and exceedingly rare "Fabergé Pickle” to Edinburgh Square as part of the Pickle Project exhibition.

Crafted in 1900 by Russian jeweller Peter Piper Fabergé, the delicate, green-enamelled pickle was long thought to symbolize prosperity, humour and the eccentric tastes of European aristocracy. Given the pickle’s history, some will do whatever it takes – including murder – to get their hands on it!

Set amongst the current Pickle Project exhibit at Edinburgh Square, the murder mystery’s assembled audience will include the likes of art historians and collectors, curators and an archaeologist. As the mystery unfolds, participants must interrogate suspects, uncover evidence and piece together the puzzle before the thief (and possible murderer) escapes justice.

Will the murderer end up in a pickle? Join us at this jar-dropping event and discover who pilfered the priceless pickle.

About the exhibition

On now until February 2026 at Edinburgh Square, The Pickle Project: History in a Jar explores the art and beauty of the pickle cruet and the deliciously decorative world of pickle presentation. Featuring more than eighty ornate cruets, jars and serving pieces from the former Bick’s Pickle Company collection, the exhibition offers a look at how humble condiments became objects of true craftsmanship and curiosity.
