Haldimand County Public Library offers a full lineup of learning, creativity, and community programs this fall

Residents of all ages are invited to explore a variety of programs and events at Haldimand County Public Library branches this fall. From hands-on workshops and family activities to health education sessions and reading programs, the library’s fall lineup offers opportunities to learn new skills, connect with others, and engage with the community.

New opportunities to learn and create

Beginning this week, the Caledonia Branch is launching a new Crochet Workshop and Social, welcoming crafters of all skill levels to bring their crochet or knitting projects and enjoy an evening of creativity and conversation. The program will feature support and guidance from local business owner Jacelyn Burtis of Marlow & Oak.

Adults can also get creative through the library’s popular Crafternoons program, with participants creating a seasonal Ghost Canvas craft at branches across the County.

Supporting health and community awareness

The Library is partnering with Grand Erie Public Health to offer two educational sessions at the Dunnville branch this month.

A Naloxone Training Session on October 14 will provide information on recognizing and responding to opioid overdoses, while a Youth Vaping Information Session on October 21 will help parents and caregivers better understand the health impacts of vaping and how to have supportive conversations with young people.

Family fun and youth programming

Families will find plenty of opportunities to participate in library programs throughout October. Children can enjoy StoryTime sessions, Tiny Tales, LEGO Clubs and a Beyblade Arena program, while a new Homeschool Crafting Club launches later this month in Dunnville.

Young readers can also build confidence through the Library’s Paws to Read program at the Hagersville Branch, where participants practice reading aloud with certified therapy dogs in a supportive environment.

Community activities and library services

Visitors to the Caledonia and Hagersville Library branches can take part in Community Puzzles, an ongoing drop-in activity that encourages residents of all ages to work together to complete large jigsaw puzzles over time.

For those looking for their next great read, movie, or magazine, Grab and Go Bundles continue to be available at all library branches, making it easy to discover new materials based on a variety of themes and interests.

Looking ahead to November

While October offers plenty of opportunities to learn, create, and connect, residents can also look forward to several programs and activities planned for November.

Families can mark their calendars for PA Day programming at the Jarvis and Cayuga branches, which will provide the opportunity to create and have fun while school is out. Youth in grades 3 to 7 looking to learn chess (or hone their skills) can also look forward to the new Youth Chess Club at the Caledonia Branch starting in November.

Dinosaur lovers of all ages can take part in DINOvember Bingo, a month-long challenge available at all Library branches. Participants will be encouraged to complete activities and explore library resources throughout November while enjoying a dinosaur-themed reading adventure.

Adults looking to connect with fellow readers will have the opportunity to join the new Afternoon Book Club at the Cayuga Branch, which launches in November and offers a welcoming environment for discussion and discovery.

Adults interested in enjoying compelling stories on screen are invited to attend the Overdue Cinema Club at the Hagersville, Caledonia, or Cayuga branches for a screening of the short film “Milan: The Inside Story of Italian Fashion,” presented as part of the library’s Diversity theme: Dress and Clothing.

Help grow the Seed Library

Residents are encouraged to support the Library’s Seed Library by donating seeds for the 2027 gardening season. Donations of new, unopened seed packets or properly labelled seeds saved from home gardens can be dropped off at any library branch.

In addition to these highlighted events, the Library continues to offer regular programming for children, teens, adults, and seniors across all six branches.
