Haldimand County Public Library offering STEM programming in partnership with McMaster University Engineering, Red Cross Babysitting Courses and more
Haldimand County Public Library is offering a number of programs and activities for children, teens, adults and families this May and June.
Teen Tape and Paint
At this workshop, youth 10-17 will design their own colour block tote bag – the perfect accessory to take to the beach this summer and to use for school in the fall. The cost to participate is $5/person and pre-registration at the library branch is required to attend. The workshop is offered at all six branches over the next several weeks; dates and times can be viewed at www.haldimandlibrary.ca.
STEM Programs in partnership with McMaster University Engineering
In partnership with McMaster University’s Engineering Department, the library is hosting two free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) programs for youth ages 9 to 14. At the Caledonia session (June 9), participants will learn the fundamentals of bridges, civil engineering, and robotics. In Hagersville (June 16), participants will be introduced to the science of skincare and chemical engineering, to develop their own lip scrub using simple, natural ingredients.
Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required as spaces are limited. Call or visit the library to register.
Summer 2026 Red Cross Babysitting Courses
Starting June 8, youth 11 to 17 can register for Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Courses which will be offered throughout the summer in each of the six library branches. This nationally-recognized program is designed to help participants develop self-assurance, knowledge and skills required not only for babysitting duties, but for day to day life. The cost to attend is $40/person; pre registration is required and must be done in person at the library branch. A complete list of course dates, times and locations can be found on the library website at www.haldimandlibrary.ca.

This May, Crafternoon participants will have the opportunity to create a decorative “Gone Fishing” painting using different techniques and materials. Crafternoons cost $2/person and are offered at the Caledonia, Cayuga, Jarvis, Dunnville and Hagersville branches. Pre-register in person at the library branch.
