Haldimand County kicks off development of Affordable Housing Strategy
Haldimand County is developing an Affordable Housing Strategy (AHS) to create a clear, consistent approach to supporting more affordable housing. Community feedback is essential to the project’s success and in the coming months, residents will have the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas related to housing.
Developing an Affordable Housing Strategy is one of Council’s key priorities for the 2022 to 2026 term. The Strategy will build on previously completed work, including the 2021 Housing Master plan and the 2025 Housing Needs Assessment, which identified significant gaps in housing supply and affordability across Haldimand.
Tim Welch Consulting Inc. was hired in February 2026 to facilitate the strategy’s development, which is expected to be completed by September of this year.
The strategy will be built around 3 main pillars:
Process and policies – improving the planning and regulatory environment to make it easier and faster to build affordable housing.
Building our capacity – strengthening partnerships, supporting the local workforce, and ensuring Haldimand has the tools and resources needed to support affordable housing development.
Growing our supply – expanding the number of affordable homes through funding tools, land strategies, and targeted incentives.
Residents who are interested in following the strategy’s development and/or participating in future public engagement opportunities are encouraged to follow Haldimand on social media, sign up for News alerts, and regularly check the website for details.
All updates regarding the Affordable Housing Strategy will be posted at www.haldimandcounty.ca/affordablehousing.
