Haldimand County invites downtown businesses to share their story

Every business has a story, and Haldimand County wants to hear it.

As part of its Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) program, Haldimand County’s Economic Development and Tourism team is visiting businesses throughout the County’s downtown communities to connect directly with business owners, learn about their experiences, and better understand the opportunities and challenges shaping local business success.

More than a survey, the BR+E program is designed to foster meaningful conversations with the people behind Haldimand County’s small and medium-sized businesses. Through these visits, the County hopes to strengthen relationships, identify emerging needs, and gather valuable insights that will help guide future economic development initiatives.

“Our downtown businesses are at the heart of our communities,” said Lidy Romanuk, Manager of Haldimand County Economic Development and Tourism. “Every conversation helps us better understand what businesses need to succeed today and where opportunities exist for future growth. By listening directly to business owners, we can continue to develop programs, services, and partnerships that reflect their priorities and support long-term economic prosperity across Haldimand County. I encourage local business owners to connect with us and share their stories.”

During each visit, business owners will have an opportunity to discuss what is working well, share any challenges they may be facing, and talk about their future goals. The information collected helps Haldimand County build a clearer picture of the local business environment and identify ways to enhance programs, strengthen partnerships, and advocate for initiatives that support business growth and resilience.

The Economic Development and Tourism team has also been engaging local Chambers of Commerce, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), and Boards of Trade as part of this collaborative effort to better understand and support the needs of Haldimand County’s business community.

Business visits are informal, typically lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, and require no preparation. Participating businesses also receive information about programs, services, and resources that may benefit their operations and future growth. Interested businesses are encouraged to connect with the Economic Development and Tourism team at opportunity@haldimandcounty.ca to schedule a time that works best for them, or submit a request by visiting BusinessHaldimand.ca.
