Haldimand County celebrates student creativity with 25th Anniversary coin contest
Haldimand County is pleased to announce the winners of its 25th Anniversary Student Coin Contest, celebrating the creativity, talent, and community pride of local students.
The contest invited students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 to design a commemorative 25-cent coin representing what makes Haldimand County special. Submissions were received across three age categories: Kindergarten to Grade 3, Grades 4 to 6, and Grades 7 to 8.
The coin contest winners are:
Kindergarten to Grade 3:
- Winner: Paisley Lane, Grade 3 student at St. Michael’s Elementary School, Dunnville
- Runner up: Evelyn Waltenbury
Grades 4 to 6:

Grades 7 to 8:

Each winning design captures a unique perspective on what makes Haldimand special. Paisley’s winning design features “Muddy,” a beloved symbol of Haldimand County that reflects her connection to the community. Averie’s coin highlights a Great Blue Heron, inspired by the natural beauty and important habitats along Lake Erie, and as a symbol of home. Lilly’s design showcases the Port Maitland Lighthouse and surrounding shoreline, capturing the unique character and significance of the County’s waterfront.
“The creativity and thoughtfulness displayed in these submissions is truly inspiring,” says Scott Luey, General Manager of Community Safety and Wellness and head of the 25th Anniversary Committee. “Each design reflects what makes Haldimand County such a special place to live, and we are incredibly proud of all the students who participated in this milestone celebration.”
Each winner received a Haldimand County prize pack and a keepsake version of their coin, presented at tonight’s Council Meeting. Their designs have also been minted on limited-edition commemorative coins, which members of the public can pick up free of charge at the Administration Building in Cayuga while supplies last.
Haldimand County thanks all students who participated in the contest for their creativity and enthusiasm. The submissions showcased incredible imagination and appreciation for the community and helped to bring this milestone celebration to life.
