From waste to wildlife: Haldimand Environmental Services hosts student art challenge at the Caledonia Fair

Haldimand County’s Environmental Services division is inviting students in Grades 5 to 8 to showcase their creativity and environmental awareness in a special contest category at the Caledonia Fair: the Waste Management Recycling Art Challenge.

Your mission

Create a freestanding animal sculpture using only materials accepted in your curbside blue box. Sculptures must be between 10 cm and 30 cm tall, and all materials must be verified using the “What Goes Where?” app to ensure they’re recyclable in Haldimand County.

Permitted art supplies

You may use tape, glue, crayons, markers, paint, and coloured pencils to help bring your creation to life.

Not allowed

No metals (such as nails, screws, wire), wood, or electronics. Unverified or non-recyclable items will disqualify your entry.

Prizes

  • 1st place: $30
  • 2nd place: $25
  • 3rd place: $20
  • 4th place: $15

How to enter

Register online or at the Fair Office with the class and section numbers found in the prize list. Once registered, drop your animal creation off at the Fair Office by Wednesday evening before the Fair.

Visit the Caledonia Fair website for full contest details and entry instructions.

Showcase your work

Winning entries may be featured on www.haldimandcounty.ca or displayed at a County facility. Let’s celebrate creativity, sustainability, and community spirit—one recycled animal at a time!
