Edinburgh Square Heritage and Cultural Centre temporarily closed for major accessibility improvements

The Edinburgh Square Heritage and Cultural Centre will be closed to the public from April 1, 2026, to approximately March 31, 2027, to support a major accessibility and facility renewal project. No public access will be available during this period.

This temporary closure will allow the County to complete the Edinburgh Square Heritage and Cultural Centre Accessibility Project, an important investment that will improve access, functionality, and long-term preservation of this historic community landmark.

Planned improvements include:

  • Installation of a 3-storey lift
  • Replacement of interior stairways from the basement to 2nd floor
  • New universal and accessible washrooms
  • A kitchenette to support programming and events
  • Interior building improvements
  • Repairs to exterior brick and stonework

Edinburgh Square is provincially and municipally designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, and all work will be completed with care to protect its heritage character.

While Edinburgh Square is closed, residents and visitors can continue to enjoy heritage and cultural programming and services at:

  • The Heritage Centre, 19 Talbot Street West, Cayuga
  • Wilson MacDonald Memorial School Museum, 3513 Haldimand Road 3, Selkirk

During the month of April, staff and volunteers will be carefully packing and rehousing the collection in preparation for construction to ensure all artifacts remain protected.

When complete, these improvements will make Edinburgh Square more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible, ensuring it continues to serve the community for generations to come.
