Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Supervisor is a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) who provides clinical leadership, supervision, and support to Personal Support Workers (PSWs) at Grandview Lodge. Working in accordance with the Fixing Long‑Term Care Act, 2021 and its regulations, the role advances the Home’s standards of care through a resident‑ and family‑centred approach. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor supports staff in developing and maintaining the competencies required to deliver safe, skilled, and high‑quality care, while promoting performance, accountability, and a respectful work environment.
In addition, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor provides oversight, consultation, and implementation of a comprehensive home‑wide Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program. This includes developing, planning, and implementing IPAC policies, procedures, surveillance, and reporting systems aligned with Ministry of Long‑Term Care and Public Health legislation, ensuring a safe environment for residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Education
- College Diploma (RPN) Registered Practical Nurse.
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC; LTC-CIP) or evidence of enrollment and plan to complete within 3 years.
Experience
- Over 2 years and including 3 years of current related experience.
- Special consideration will be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience with infection prevention and control, quality improvement and risk management.
- Experience in long term care of health care setting.
Knowledge/Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence, motivate, provide training, using flexible communication styles and to ensure suitable agreement, decisions are reached.
- Demonstrated initiative, and ability to make decisions involving routine tasks, within established procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently referring only to major problems to supervisors/managers.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity involving regular work with confidential information.
- Proven ability to influence financial decisions, including authorizing discretionary expenditures.

- Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
- Sound understanding of legislation and regulations relative to long-term care and a health care setting.
- Technology Aptitude
- Demonstrated fundamental computer skills to perform basic tasks on various technological devices and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and an awareness of best practices.
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Computer proficiency in Point Click Care, or equivalent reporting software.
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
Corporate
- Follow the GVL philosophy of delivering care to Residents by utilizing DementiAbility and GPA principles.
- Ensure the Resident’s Bill of Rights is respected and the guidelines set out by relevant provincial legislation, regulations, and directives are followed, by communicating with residents, visitors, and other personnel in a courteous manner.
- Participate as a member of Grandview’s leadership team, under the direction of the Administrator, and contribute to the development of goals and objectives for Grandview; chair or be an active participant in meetings designed to ensure actions are identified and taken contributing to continuous quality improvement at Grandview Lodge.
- Develop the programs and support department goals and objectives in conjunction with the Community Safety & Wellness Division, along with Grandview Lodge Strategic Goals.
People
- Identify clinical needs within the Home and act as a resource to support staff development, including participation in special projects and initiatives related to Ministry of Long-Term Care compliance and level of care requirements.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate education and training programs focused on best practices, delivering clinically relevant programming and innovative learning methods to support quality resident care at the point of care.
- Apply sound human resources management practices related to Personal Support Worker (PSW) performance, including conducting evaluations, providing feedback, and supporting ongoing professional development.
- Respond to clinical practice learning needs by guiding staff in developing their clinical competencies and providing appropriate education, coaching, and learning resources.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to implement the IPAC program.
- Collaborates with external stakeholders such as Public Health and the IPAC HUB.
Money/Asset
- Assist the Associate Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing with budget preparation.
- Monitor and purchase IPAC supplies and materials.
Timeline
- Oversees, monitors lead key committees that include front line workers and external partners. Audits key Personal Support Worker programs and functions as outlined by the Associate Director of Nursing/Director of Nursing
- Ministry reporting timelines must be followed should a resident incident occur this is done as needed. There are strict timelines that must be adhered to for initial and follow up reporting.
- Assist Associate Director of Nursing with timely follow-up to staff investigations in accordance with the collective agreement.
Functional
- Nursing Operations:
- Act as a liaison between the Associate Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing, ensuring timely communication and appropriate follow-up with all relevant disciplines.
- Advocate for positive change within the Home by fostering a person-centred, proactive environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and openness to new ideas.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of personal health records and other sensitive information related to residents’ care, in accordance with applicable policies, standards, and legislation.
- Manage concerns/complaints from staff, visitors and residents.
- Performs duties of a Registered Practical Nurse as required.
- Policy Development and Legislative Compliance:
- Monitor practices to ensure compliance with application legislation and regulations relevant to the PSW function; (specifically, Ministry of Long-Term Care and Ministry of Labour requirements, HSCPOA.
- Follow up with the outcomes of audit programs that related to the PSW best practice, quality improvement in the delivery of care for the residents.
- Assist in developing compliance action plans for the Ministry of Long-Term Care and ensure that all education involved in the plans are implemented.
- With the direction of the Associate Director of Nursing assist in the development, implementation and education of appropriate policies and procedures including monitoring and reporting systems that ensure safety and well-being of residents.
- Updating and implementing IPAC policies and procedures based on currently accepted best practices and legislative and/or program requirements.
- Participating in the development/ review of occupational health policies and procedures related to IPAC.
- IPAC:
- Providing knowledge, training and advice regarding the value and role of the IPAC function.
- Supporting residents/ families, administration, committees/ communities of practices in IPAC practices and knowledge.
- Participating in local IPAC Community of Practice and/or IPAC Hub.
- Overseeing the delivery of IPAC education to all staff (orientation, annual), caregivers, volunteers and residents.
- Acts as a Chairperson of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and the Outbreak Management Team as required.
- A member of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC).
- Integrating surveillance (and/or testing) findings into formal plans for IPAC in Grandview Lodge.
- Completion and follow up of mandatory audits.
- Manage outbreak situations within the home and lead communication.
- Conducts real time audits at a minimum of quarterly of specific activities that is performed by staff in the home. Implements required improvements as required as a result of IPAC audits.
- Complies and reviews daily and monthly infection reports and prepares statistical data and determines if action is required.
- Coordinates IPAC annual program evaluation and ensures written records are kept including the date of the evaluation, the names of the participants in the evaluation, a summary of the changes made and the date of that those changes were implemented.
- Makes recommendations and presents IPAC issues/statistics to the committee.
- A member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Makes recommendations and presents IPAC issues/statistics to the committee.
- Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures.
- Employee Wellness, Attendance and Performance Management:
- Administrator Grandview Lodge’s Attendance Support and Absenteeism Program for the PSWs, with coordination support from Human Resources.
- Oversee the performance of Personal Support Workers.
- Other duties as assigned

Position Requirement(s)
- A current Vulnerable Sector check (LE 220 or Equivalent) from within the last 6 months
- Two-Step Mantoux Test within the past 6 months
Working Conditions
- Primarily scheduled 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (days) and/or 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. (evenings), Monday to Friday, with rotating weekend coverage and flexibility required to meet operational needs of the home.
- Occasional On Call as required.
- Haldimand County Flex Time Policy – allows for alternative work scheduling to accommodate workload needs of Grandview Lodge and personal needs of employees.
