Debb's Cuisine

When Debb's Cuisine relocated to 109 Queen Street in downtown Dunnville, it saw the potential to transform a long-vacant, fire-damaged building into a vibrant restaurant and catering facility.

The project not only expanded the business but also restored an underutilized property, contributing to the ongoing revitalization of Dunnville's downtown. 

Redeveloping an older commercial building requires significant upgrades to meet Ontario Building Code, fire code, accessibility, and public health standards. Through Haldimand County's Downtown Areas Community Improvement Plan (CIP), Debb's Cuisine received a $25,000 Building Restoration, Renovation and Improvement Grant, and $4,153 Application and Permit Fees Refund Grant which helped offset the cost of substantial capital investments. Funding supported the installation of commercial ventilation and fire suppression systems, barrier-free washrooms, upgraded plumbing, commercial refrigeration, food preparation equipment, and other improvements necessary to create a safe, modern, and fully code-compliant restaurant and catering kitchen. Together, these incentives helped unlock a significant private investment that returned a vacant building to productive use, expanded a locally owned business, created a new dining destination in downtown Dunnville, and supported local employment. The project demonstrates how the Downtown Areas Community Improvement Plan helps businesses overcome common redevelopment challenges while encouraging investment that strengthens Haldimand County's downtown areas.
