Calling all food waste fighters: Haldimand County Waste Management holds recycling art challenge at Caledonia Fair
Haldimand County’s Environmental Services division is inviting students in Grades 5 to 8 to showcase their creativity and environmental awareness in a special contest category at the Caledonia Fair: the Waste Management Recycling Art Challenge.
Your mission
Design an original superhero with amazing powers that help save food and stop food waste at home, at school, or in your community. Your poster should include:
- Your superhero's name
- What super powers they have
- How those powers help reduce food waste
The poster paper size must be 11 x 17 inches (28 cm x 44 cm) and can be made with any art style or materials (e.g. markers, paint, pencil, collage, digital print, etc.). The artwork and characters must be original, i.e. no TV, movie, or comic characters.
Posters will be judged on:
- Creativity
- Clear food-saving message
- Awesome superhero idea
The winning superhero will become the official Food Waste Mascot for the year.
The artwork of the top four winners will be displayed at various Haldimand County display cases after the Caledonia Fair.

1st place: $30
2nd place: $25
3rd place: $20
4th place: $15
How to enter
Register online or at the Caledonia Fair Office with the class and section numbers found in the prize list. Once registered, drop your superhero poster off at the fair office by Wednesday, September 30 at 5:00 p.m.
