Applications open for Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee
Residents with expertise in governance, finance, or law are invited to apply to serve on the Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee (MECAC).
Haldimand County, the City of Brantford, the County of Brant, and Norfolk County have established a joint MECAC for the 2026 municipal election. The committee consists of five members appointed by the participating municipalities, with applications reviewed through a joint selection process led by the municipal Clerks. The committee’s term of office is four years, beginning November 16, 2026.
The MECAC plays an important role in upholding transparency and accountability in municipal elections. Under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, eligible voters who believe a candidate or registered third-party advertiser has contravened campaign finance rules may request a compliance audit. The committee reviews these requests, oversees audits where required, and determines whether further action is necessary. Learn more about the committee on our website.
