Emergency kits
Having an emergency kit is key to being prepared. You may need different kits depending on your circumstances.

Home survival kit
Include:
- Container (box or plastic tub) for your kit\
- Food for 3 days per person and (bottle) water (4 L per person, per day)
- Flashlight and batteries
- Radio and batteries, or a crank radio
- Spare batteries and phone chargers
- Family first-aid kit
- Extra car keys and cash
- Important papers (identification)
- Clothing and footwear
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Toilet paper and other personal hygiene items
- Medication, spare glasses, mobility and hearing aids
- Whistle (if needed, to attract attention)
- Playing cards, games, toys
- Manual can opener, bottle opener
- Map of the County/Province
- Duct tape and plastic sheeting
- Water purification tablets
- Corded telephone (non-electricity dependent)
- Baby supplies/diapers
- Pet food and supplies
- Pocket knife or multi-tool
- Cook stove, lantern and fuel (follow manufacturers' instructions; never use barbecues indoors)
- Disposable cups, plates, knives, forks, spoons
- Non-perishable healthy food
- Choose ready-to-eat foods that your family likes and that don’t need refrigeration:
- Canned foods, such as soups, stews, baked beans, pasta, meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, and fruits
- Crackers, biscuits, honey, peanut butter, syrup, and jam
- Salt, pepper, sugar, instant coffee, and tea
Note: Consume and replace water, canned food, and dry goods once a year.
Grab and go bag
If you are asked to evacuate to a reception centre or a family member/friend’s residence, here’s what you should bring with you:
- Duffle bag or backpack for kit
- Clothing and footwear
- Phone charger
- Prescription drugs (check dates and rotate supply), spare glasses
- ID/photos of family
- Personal care items
- Hand sanitizer
- Face masks
- Non-perishable healthy snacks
- Playing cards, games, iPod, etc.
- Pet bowl, leash, and supplies
- Baby supplies and diapers
- Important papers, insurance, contact numbers, certificates, health cards, etc.
Kits for seniors and special needs individuals
Include:
- Identification
- Medical alert bracelet
- List of medications, prescriptions, allergies, and special food needs
- Mobility support requirements
- Set up a support network with family, friends, neighbours, and an out of town contact
- Extra/spare assistive devices, hearing aids, glasses, personal amplifier
- Alternate/back-up plan for any life-sustaining equipment or apparatus
- Medical testing equipment (kits) supply of testing strips, record book, alarms
- Service animal emergency kit
Vehicle emergency kits
Include:
- Flashlight and batteries
- Radio, batteries, crank radio
- Spare batteries and phone charger
- Vehicle first aid kit, seatbelt cutter
- Booster cables, tow chain/rope
- Fire extinguisher (ABC type)
- Tire pump/inflator, tire gauge

- Compass, road maps, GPS
- Emergency flares and safety triangle
- Shovel, multi-tool, snow brush/scraper
