Skating Programs

Haldimand County offers a wide variety of skating programs at its four arenas. Strap on a pair of skates and stay physically active while promoting healthy lifestyles in your community!

Programs are cancelled on some dates throughout the season. Please check the online Activity Calendar before you go to the arena.

Programs & Fees

  • Public Skate – FREE
    This is an opportunity for all ages to skate. Patrons who participate in public skating programs must respect the rules posted at Arenas. Skating aids are NOT permitted during public skates.
  • Adult Skate – FREE
    This is an opportunity for lap skating and is open to those 18 years and older. We strongly recommend that all skaters wear CSA-approved helmets.
  • Child’s Hockey Skate – FREE
    This is an opportunity for children to develop hockey skills. Please note that sticks and pucks WILL BE permitted on the ice surface. This skating session is for children up to grade 3.

    • All participants must wear skates;
    • All participants must be supervised by a parent/guardian wearing skates on the ice;
    • Chairs, sleds, strollers, pylons and skating aids ARE NOT permitted on the ice surface;
    • It is recommended that all participants wear full hockey equipment for protection;
    • Wearing of CSA-approved helmets is mandatory, and
    • Full facemasks are mandatory for all participants under 18 yrs of age.
  • Open Figure Skate – FREE
    Open to all skaters who are currently registered in or have previously participated in Skate Canada’s STARskate program. All skaters will be expected to be aware of the others on the ice and maintain a safe environment for all. Wearing a CSA approved helmet is strongly recommended.
  • Pre-School Skate – FREE
    This is an opportunity for adults to teach children how to skate. This skating session is for children up to grade 3.

    • No hockey sticks or figure skating is allowed;
    • All participants must wear skates;
    • Skating aids will be permitted for this program ONLY;
    • All pre-schoolers must be supervised by a parent/guardian on the ice;
    • CSA approved skating aids WILL be permitted for this program;
    • Chairs, sleds, strollers and pylons ARE NOT permitted on the ice surface, and
    • We strongly recommend that all skaters wear CSA-approved helmets.
  • Shinny – FREE
    This is an opportunity to participate in self-organized, non-contact hockey. Full equipment is required. Wearing of CSA-approved helmets is MANDATORY.

    • Adult and Women’s Shinny: Open to those 18 years and older
    • Teen Shinny: Open to youth from grade 9 to 17 years of age
    • Youth Shinny: Open to youth in grades 4-8
  • Note: Physically-challenged persons who wish to participate in on-ice activities by using their wheelchair or ice sledge are welcome to join the programs identified.
  • Inclusion Opportunities
    Individuals who wish to participate in on-ice activities by using their wheelchair or ice sledge are welcome to join the following programs: public skate, pre-school skate, adult/senior skate.
