Starting in July 2020, Haldimand County and its tree service contactor will perform pruning maintenance on all County owned trees within the urban boundary of Caledonia, north of the Grand River.
Tree health and structure can be greatly increased by regular pruning, especially when the trees are young. Trees that are left unpruned can develop many structural problems such as weak branch structure, crossing branches, and co-dominant leaders. County trees are pruned to meet the following objectives:
- Maintain and improve the structural integrity of the tree.
- Promoting the health and well-being of the tree.
- Risk mitigation by pruning out hazardous tree parts.
- Provide sufficient clearances over the road, driveways, sidewalks and buildings.
All pruning work is performed in accordance with the International Society of Arboriculture’s best management practices and completed by a Certified Arborist. Tree pruning work will only be completed on County trees. In some cases the tree may be located on the County’s property bordering a homeowner’s private property.
