What is the Official Plan?
An Official Plan is a policy document adopted under the Planning Act that contains goals, objectives and policies to manage and direct physical change and its effects on the social, economic and natural environment of the municipality. The Haldimand County Official Plan incorporates land use information that will guide and direct planning and development over the next 20 years. The Zoning Bylaw and the installation of major public infrastructure must conform to the policies of the Official Plan.
Need for an Update
The Official Plan was approved by County Council in 2006 and by the Province in 2009 and there have been about 50 amendments to the Plan since then. The Official Plan must conform to and be consistent with Provincial policies that guide land development. In recent years, there have been significant changes to these Provincial policies and the Official Plan needs to be updated so that these policies can be applied in a manner that meets the conditions and context of Haldimand. The current Official Plan was intended to guide growth and development to 2031. The update is needed so that the Plan can guide growth and development over the next 25 years – to 2046.
On January 14, 2020, Council in Committee will be presented with a staff report outlining the proposed phasing of the update and the scope of work. Residents are invited to provide input on revisions that may be needed to the Official Plan

Council shall have regard to any written submissions. Written submissions must be received by the Municipal Clerk, at the above address by January 7th, 2020
