Caledonia Fire and EMS Station Project
Haldimand County is constructing a new 15,640-square-foot joint Fire Station and EMS Building. This new facility is necessary to continue to provide a safe community for the growing population of Caledonia and Haldimand.

Project summary
In 2018, Haldimand County purchased 2.77 acres on the north side of Caledonia as a site for the future facility, located at 270 Argyle Street North.
The scope of work includes constructing the new 15,640-square-foot facility, site works, site services, and landscaping.
Fire station
The Fire portion of the building consists of approximately 6,372 square feet which includes four (4) drive-thru style bays. The EMS portion consists of approximately 1,432 square feet and two (2) drive-thru style bays. The Fire Services portion of the main building includes offices, space for decontamination including the extractor/dryer room, locker area, washrooms with showers and laundry room, storage and maintenance facilities.
EMS station
The EMS portion includes an office, lunchroom/crew quarters, locker area, washrooms with showers, and stock room. There are approximately 7,836 square feet within the building for shared spaces, including a training/meeting room for 48 persons with a kitchen and chair/table storage, a universal washroom, and space for the display of an antique fire truck.
Timeline
2014 – staff proposes and Council approves a budget for the purchase of land to build the facility. A 2.77-acre parcel of land located at 270 Argyle Street North was proposed as the preferred location after consultation with senior fire staff and local volunteer firefighters.
2018 – Haldimand County purchases 270 Argyle Street North.
October 2021 – Staff prepares a Request for Proposal for architectural and engineering consulting services for the project. The tender is released on October 26, 2021.
January 2022 to March 2023 – Staff awards the Request for Proposal for consulting services to G.D. Vallee Ltd., and begins the detailed design development of the project.
November 2022 – Staff prepares the Request for Prequalification for general contractors for the project. The tender is released on November 1, 2022.
April 2023 – Staff prepares the Request for Tender for the Caledonia Fire & EMS Station for the project. The tender is released on April 11, 2023.
