Grandview Lodge ... an Accredited home:  Accreditation Canada congratulates Grandview Lodge on meeting national standards of excellence in quality care and service.

Grandview Lodge ... a "scent-reduced" home:   Grandview Lodge provides a scent-reduced working and living environment.  All scents that are known to cause health concerns for Residents, staff or visitors are prohibited in Grandview Lodge.  These scents include but are not limited to plants, flowers, perfumes, hairsprays, air fresheners.

For more than 90 years, Grandview Lodge has provided 24 hour-long term care to a diverse population ranging in age from 18 to over 100 years. Through a judicial use of contracted professionals and a committed team of management and staff, Grandview provides high quality services while remaining fiscally responsible.  GVL is a 128-bed home with four separate units of 32 beds each. There are 4 private and 28 standard bedrooms in each area. In each home area there is a dining room, activation area, courtyard, spa room and nursing station for the 32 residents.

Grandview Lodge has the following to offer:


Nursing and Personal Care

  • 24-hour nursing care under the supervision of RN
  • A secure unit for wandering residents
  • Palliative care
  • Private duty nursing (direct cost to resident/family)
  • Provision of incontinence products
  • Pharmacy services
  • Family conferences
  • Hairdresser/barber services (fee)
  • Identification bracelets upon admission (fee)

Medical Care

  • RN/RPNs on site 24-hours per day dispensing medications, administering treatments and care plans
  • On-site physician care
  • Booking of referral appointments and procedures
  • Transportation to and from appointments (fee)
  • Medical supplies
  • Lab services (on-site)
  • Aberdeen Health & Community Services (fee)
  • Eye care (fee)
  • Specialized geriatric services (on-site by referral)
  • Audiologist (on-site, fee)
  • Denturist (fee)
  • Mobile Dental Hygiene Services (all fees based on the Ontario Dental Hygiene guide)
  • Speech therapist (by referral)
  • Occupational therapist (by referral)
  • Physiotherapist and 2 PTAs (on-site)
  • CNIB (on-site once a month and by referral)
  • Wheelchair/assistive devices (for exclusive use, resident must purchase their own)

Accomodations

  • Private rooms located at the end of each resident home unit, which offer a comfortable sitting area and easy access to the outdoors. They have a larger floor space, ensuite washroom, two windows and sitting area.
  • Standard rooms offer a window view and wheelchair accessible washroom shared by 2 residents.
  • All rooms offer built in armoires, side tables, beds and a chair.
  • Cable/Internet access /Phone services available (fee) in each room.
  • Memory boxes are located outside each resident room to showcase a cherished memento. Each memory box comes with a key.
  • Bar fridges are allowed at the residents expense and personal upkeep is the responsibility of the resident and or family.
  • Washer and dryer are available for residents wishing to do their own laundry.

Laundry, Housekeeping, Maintenance
Machine washing and drying of resident's personal clothing. Ironing and mending are available for a monthly fee. Housekeeping maintains a clean, pleasant and home-like environment. Maintenance staff are on-site to maintain a safe and healthy environment.


Dietary
GVL offers full meal service including:

  • 3 meals daily, snacks between meals and at bedtime
  • Dietician on-site weekly
  • Therapeutic diets, dietary supplements and assistive devices for feeding
  • A relaxed and pleasurable dining atmosphere

Social, Recreation, and Physical Activities

  • Shopping days both on and off site
  • Personal shopper available for residents' individual needs
  • Tuck Shop (daily)
  • Library with computer access
  • Outings provided with the staff
  • Visiting pet therapy
  • 2 pet cockatiels named “Sunshine” and “Ozzie”
  • Pet cat in the secure area named “Montey”
  • Church service weekly on a rotating basis with local churches
  • Movies
  • One to one visitation

  • Interlink school programs
  • Wide range of in house recreation programs
  • Special events which include but are not limited to:

** One full-time Recreationist assigned for every home area (32 residents)


Volunteers / Auxillary
The GVL auxiliary has been operating for over 50 years with a staff of dedicated volunteers. As well as running the GVL Tuck Shop, they sponsor many outings, socials, take-out dinners twice monthly from local eateries, assist with programs and supply cards and gifts to our residents for birthdays and Christmas.

Council and Committees
The Residents' Council, Resident Activation Committee, Resident Food Committee and Family Council provide valuable input into the lives of GVL's residents.


Grand Viewpoints
Grand Viewpoints is a monthly newsletter communicating to residents and family members pertinent information, upcoming events, etc. in regards to everyday life at GVL.

Admissions
The Haldimand-Norfolk Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) will do an initial social and care level assessment and send a referral for placement to GVL. Grandview Lodge notifies CCAC of any bed vacancies.
You may contact CCAC for further details as to monthly costs by telephoning 1 866 790 4642.


Tours
Tours are available Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Please contact the Nursing Department at 905 774-7547, ext 252, and leave a message to include your name and telephone number.

A Day Of Life

This video "A Day Of Life" allows seniors to have an understanding of what to expect when coming into Long Term Care. Information covers three specific topics: managing personal and financial affairs, what to expect when living in long term care and how to prepare yourself for a successful transition.to long term care. This information is conveyed by professionals, staff and as well as seniors being interviewed sharing their experiences.
